“Can you still hear the bombs? I can hear them.”

In a new solo show, choreographer and actress Samaa Wakim questions how living in a war zone impacted the shaping of her identity. ‘Losing it’ examines how the trauma of previous generations penetrates our present body through movement and sound. Sama takes us back to the moment in which she began to fear losing her freedom. On the stage, she relives her childhood memories in the shadow of constant wars, analyses reality, and delves into an imagined world woven of fear and hope in an attempt to endure and survive. When fear overcomes her, her world turns upside down, the earth shakes, and the voices diminish, creating a third world in which reality and fantasy merge. The dialogue between the live music of Samar Haddad King and Sama’s vocals creates a world in which the voices that used to frighten or comfort us intercept in making the past and the present obscure the future.
