This time, Amer Halihal tells us the story of Basel, who went down the ‘Hoota’ but there were no ghouls there, and everyone agreed that he is a great hero.
The "Hoota" - a unique natural phenomenon of a vertical cave in the ground - is located next to the village of Basel (at forty years old). Fifteen-years-old Basel decides to do what no one has done before, and goes down the Hoota. In doing so, he defies the entire village, which believe that a ghoul inhabits the Hoota, who owns the flocks of pigeons that live in the Hoota, and that no one is allowed to touch them, and if one does, the ghoul will come to them at night and eat them up with their clothes on.
Then came the revolution, which brought about division, that led to confrontations, which brought about war, that brought forth warring and conflicting factions and battalions. As Basil is looking for his brother at the turmoil of the war, he falls into the hands of a warring faction. From this moment on, he embarks on a Sisyphian journey, from one faction to another, fights, shoots, and participates in all the things that war dictates to those who are forced in its way. During his journey, that stands to reason only by the logic of war, Basel loses everything he had: people, family, friends, lover, and all that he knew before the war.
In “Hoota”, which is based on the events of a true story, Amer Halihal asks what is it in war that turns us into musters, while we were simply ordinary people a moment before? Is the human soul inherently vengeful? Is war our only human reality?
