Come join us for the second session of Radical Cinema Roulette with underground streaming service Write Brain TV! We’ll be collectively voting on which film to watch from the collection “Rituals of Resistance: Films of the First Nations” – a collection works by indigenous filmmakers (and some accomplices) centered on their resistance struggles.
As we collectively endure the impacts of 500+ years of brutal settler colonization, and seek out a path beyond this crumbling empire, learning from the struggle of the indigenous peoples of these lands could not be more important. Come join us to not only experience powerful cinema, but crucially, digest it together through a post-screening horizontal community discussion that holds space to reflect what we’ve watched, and how it impacts our understanding of where we are now and where we’re headed.
Ticket sales will be used to fundraise for the Namaygoosisagagun First Nations, who have faced the destruction of their lands in the ongoing wildfires in North Canada – an ecological disaster that is a direct result of the removal of indigenous people from their ancestral lands, and the climate collapse stoked by the settler system of capital which threatens the stability of the global environment.
As Hollywood romanticizes & aestheticizes climate collapse, revising history to flatter the colonizers, come hold space for the building of an alternative culture of cinema, rooted in the underground, the revolutionary potential of film curation, and the importance of creating autonomous, anti-imperial modes of curation, production and distribution.
