Maté Nacht is a monthly gathering where art, culture, and human connection come together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Inspired by the ritual of sharing maté, a traditional drink known for bringing people together, Maté Nacht creates a space where strangers can meet, conversations unfold naturally, and creativity flows freely.
During this edition, visitors are invited to move through a living art café filled with Arabic literature, visual art, storytelling, movement, dance, shared food, open performances, live music, and spontaneous encounters. From collaborative painting and voice work to improvisation, Bhangra, acoustic music, and conversations around maté, each part of the programme invites people to participate, explore, and connect.
More than a traditional event, Maté Nacht feels like a temporary community where people meet beyond social roles, backgrounds, and expectations. A place where art is not only observed, but created, shared, and experienced together.
Everyone is welcome: artists, curious minds, and anyone seeking inspiration, connection, creative freedom, and human warmth.
Maté Nacht is a drug-free and alcohol-free event, creating a clear and grounded environment for authentic human connection.
Explore a carefully curated collection of Arabic books during Maté Nacht, ranging from literature and poetry to educational works and contemporary publications. Browse through the selection, discover new writers and stories, and take books home with you.
At the special Wishlist Corner, you can scan a QR code to request books you would love to see during a future edition of the Arabic Book Corner.
More than a bookstand, the Arabic Book Corner is a quiet cultural meeting place where language, stories, and curiosity bring people together naturally.
What can emerge when you stop searching for the perfect idea and simply begin?
During One Colour, Many Hands, each participant chooses one colour and intuitively begins creating an individual artwork. After a short period, the works are passed on, and each person responds with their own chosen colour to what someone else has created.
As the artworks move from hand to hand, individual gestures gradually grow into shared compositions shaped by different rhythms, perspectives, and personalities.
The Open Atelier also remains available throughout the afternoon for visitors who prefer to draw, paint, or experiment independently. You are welcome to walk in, observe, ask questions, explore the materials, or take part at your own pace.
The session is guided by Ali Taifour, a multidisciplinary artist, Creative Director, theatre-maker, filmmaker, photographer, and founder of White Hole Studio.
What does it feel like to let your voice be heard and to be truly seen?
Through storyweaving, writing, vocal expression, and short performance exercises, this workshop invites participants to create a personal text or performance and practise sharing it within a small and supportive group.
The session explores courage, presence, voice projection, and the experience of taking up space through your own words. Participants will offer one another the gift of attention while creating a safer environment in which to practise being visible, heard, and present.
TJ Querio is a queer ritual artist working at the intersection of art, language, ritual, and community building. They are also an astrologer, tarot reader, hypnotherapist, dramaturg, and wordsmith.
Advance registration is required. The workshop is limited to a maximum of ten participants and begins with a fixed group.
Discover improvisation through the fundamental principles of complex systems.
Through movement, sound, and playful exercises, participants explore patterns, synchronisation, scale, variation, and the continuous interaction between control and letting go.
Rather than following fixed steps or routines, the workshop uses simple structures as starting points for experimentation. Participants respond to the space, the group, and the unexpected possibilities that emerge in the moment.
Justin Timmer is a generalist who thrives in improvisation across dance, rap, painting, writing, and other creative forms. His scientific background in complexity and systems thinking allows him to create frameworks that guide improvisation without limiting its freedom.
This is not a traditional dance class. There are no fixed routines—only freedom through playing with structure, rhythm, movement, sound, and flow.
No previous experience is needed, and visitors are welcome to join during the session.
Discover the powerful rhythms, expressive movements, and uplifting energy of Bhangra.
This energetic dance originated in Punjab as a celebration of the harvest season, bringing together rhythm, strength, joy, and collective movement.
During this accessible workshop, Saleha Q invites you to experience your body in a dynamic and empowered way. Through energetic movements and rhythmic combinations, participants will activate the whole body while enjoying the shared energy of the group.
Saleha Q is a regenerative health practitioner and musician with a background in oncology, yoga, calisthenics, Bollywood, hip-hop, modern dance, and other movement practices. After nearly a decade of nomadic living, she brings together influences learned from different cultures and from nature around the world.
No previous dance experience is required. Expect a full-body workout, explosive energy, and plenty of smiles.
Take a seat at the shared table and enjoy homemade Syrian and Lebanese dishes prepared by Aida Alayek of Aida Kitchen.
Aida brings recipes and flavours connected to memory, family, hospitality, and the tradition of gathering around food. The meal becomes more than an intermission: it creates a warm space where artists, participants, and visitors can meet beyond the formal programme.
Continue conversations that began during the workshops, meet new people, and allow the energy of the afternoon to gradually shift into the evening.
From 18:30, the Open Stage begins while visitors are welcome to continue eating, listening, and sharing the table at their own pace.
Everyone who would like to share something—music, poetry, dance, spoken words, a personal story, or a short performance—is given space here.
The Open Stage is a judgement-free environment where every voice matters. A small idea, an unfinished experiment, or a first step onto the stage can become the centre of attention for a few meaningful moments.
Contributions do not need to be perfect or professionally prepared. The Open Podium is a place to try, explore, and share something with an open and supportive audience.
As the Shared Table continues in a relaxed way, the Open Stage creates a gradual transition into the evening programme and serves as the opening act for the main performance.
Let yourself be carried away by a warm acoustic set featuring original songs, musical influences from different cultures, and space for spontaneous improvisation.
Saleha Q is a travelling musician who brings influences from the cultures, landscapes, and communities she encounters into her uplifting acoustic sound.
Raised with the colourful influence of Bollywood, she has expressed herself through dance, acting, painting, and music. In recent years, her focus has increasingly shifted towards songwriting with her five-string ukulele, guitar, and voice.
During Soul Jam with Saleha Q, original songs, personal stories, and other musical influences come together in a live acoustic performance that moves between prepared material and moments created spontaneously in the room.
During an interactive part of the evening, the audience will also be invited to become part of the music through rhythm, sound, voice, and shared improvisation.
Slow down and close the evening together with maté, conversations, and spontaneous encounters.
The formal programme gradually gives way to an open social space where visitors, artists, and participants can meet, reflect, and share what they experienced throughout the day.
Perhaps a workshop sparked an idea that deserves to grow. Perhaps a movement, story, or song opened a conversation that continues later in the evening. This is the space to exchange thoughts, ask questions, meet the artists behind the programme, or simply listen.
The shared ritual of preparing, drinking, and passing maté slows down the rhythm of the night and invites people to remain present with one another.
An open space for reflection, connection, new stories, and collaborations that may emerge naturally.
