Sarkash سرکش Underground is a one day music and culture festival taking place for the first time this summer in Berlin as a platform for hip-hop, rap, trap, and experimental sounds from Afghanistan, Balochistan, and Kashmir.
Following our afternoon workshops, the main doors open at 16:30 as the energy builds with an exciting live lineup and DJ performances into the night. The festival embodies a subcultural practice of resistance - an underground reality that otherwise (is forced to) operate in informal spaces.
The name “Sarkash” (Dari: rebellious, disobedient) stands for self-determined expression - independent, defiant, loud, and bold. At a time when music in Afghanistan is severely restricted and many artists live and create in exile or underground, the festival creates a frame where young diaspora music can live on and grow.
Sarkash Underground is a collaboration between Roshā e.V. and Afghan Punk Kollektive.
The festival kicks off early for our workshop guests, with 2 simultaneous sessions taking place from 15:00 – 16:30: a hip-hop/rap writing workshop and a voice activation workshop.
Main festival entry begins at 16:30.
Limited tickets will be available at the door, please note that entry is cash only.
The detailed artist lineup schedule will be released soon. Stay tuned!
Please note that this is an 18+ event.
