A celebrated and extremely intense wartime drama seen from the perspective of a sniper and set in Haifa Street, in a Baghdad torn by strife and sectarian violence in the aftermath of the US invasion.
Ahmed returns to his native country together with American troops after 20 years in the States. When he discovers the atrocities committed in Abu Ghraib prison, he begins to document them with his video camera. One day, Ahmed makes it to Haifa Street to propose to his old love, Suad, hoping to bring her and her daughter to the US. On a nearby roof, a sniper named Salman is lurking, tormented by anxiety and visions of a ghostly child walking the streets of the city. Haifa Street is Mohanad Hayal’s directorial debut and was awarded at Busan, the biggest film festival in Asia.
