“ADIRA” is a Levantine queer slang term meaning someone fierce, capable, and accomplished. Founded in 2023 by Hassandra and Zuher Jazmati (xanax_attax), ADIRA is a queer Arab*/SWANA collective and Arabic-pop party series. At its core, ADIRA celebrates Arabic-pop nostalgia from the 80s, 90s, and 00s while challenging orientalist stereotypes and reclaiming cultural memory. Since its launch, ADIRA has hosted 100+ artists across 30+ events, from iconic club nights, drag shows, panels, to community events and exhibitions. In 2024, ADIRA made history by launching the world’s first Arab* Drag Festival. With a strong visual identity and bridging collaborations with collectives across Berlin, ADIRA continues to create safer spaces free from tokenism, amplifying Arab* queer voices and redefining club culture in Berlin and beyond.*Note: Arab* denotes a diversity of identities and ethnicities within Southwest Asia and North Africa.
